We approach our performance as research, and believe the score is only the beginning.  As an ensemble of two core members, virtuostic works for two voices from all eras form the heart of our repertoire.  We seek to bring cutting edge performances beyond the formal concert hall, to venues and communities overlooked by the mainstream. Through collaboration with living composers, we look to enrich the future of western art music and our own experience.  We welcome opportunities to contribute to music education through workshops, lecture recitals, conferences and interaction with student composers.

Founded in 2007, Bright Cecilia is a vocal chamber ensemble devoted to interpreting and performing early and contemporary music from a perspective that is intimate and experimental as well as historically informed.  Core members Robin Bier and Graham Bier are currently studying at the University of York with Dr. John Potter.  In the past Bright Cecilia have been guest performers for "Sound and Silence in Medieval Life" hosted by the Durham Medieval Archaeologists, the Scarborough Coastival, the Yorkshire Dialect Society, Bradenton Musica Sacra, and the New College Conference on Medieval and Renaissance Studies among others.

We are excited to have our Lost Songs program accepted by the Late Music Call for Performers, and look forward to performing in 2010 as part of the Late Music Concert Series.

Bright Cecilia is the grateful recipient of the Roslyn Lyons Masters Scholarship which helped to fund our study as an ensemble at the University of York.
